My Story

I decided to get into acting later in my 20s as my appreciation and understanding of it grew as did my taste in films and tv as well as performance and theatre…

So far I have attended a few introductory acting lessons and been reading a lot of books. I did film studies in 2013 at Edinburgh University as part of my social sciences course which was great and I really enjoyed the book understanding film studies, the social sciences course also included a lot of other subjects such as sociology, philosophy, creative writing and psychology which I think were all really interesting subjects and they definitely taught me a lot about human nature, the mind and society as a whole and I think all that stuff is great when it comes to acting and creativeness and art in its own way.

So far I’m enjoying acting so much and I’m learning loads as well as gaining a lot of experience too thanks to a new stage school I joined in 2013, it has been an awesome introduction to my first theatre role that I truly loved playing, the concept for the play was put together by a collaboration of my fellow stage school students, our teacher’s and myself. The part I played was of a burglar named Jonny who happens to be burgling a house at Christmas time and is confronted by who he at first believes to be the owners of the house, but is disturbingly shocked and surprised when he realises they are apparitions of his conscience who then begin fighting over his mind and soul to try and convince him what to do with regards to robbing them at this festive time of the year…

The part had a politically tinged vibe to it regarding Jonny’s poverty stricken situation and the particular time of year and also dealt with moral issues in society but it also had comedic moment’s which the crowd enjoyed. I really enjoyed playing the part and was able to express myself a lot in the play and I really felt Jonny’s situation and related in my own way to the character and it was a really good learning experience for me as an actor.

I’m continually looking to further my experience and knowledge.

My next move is to try and focus on some film work and continue with more theatre parts also as I enjoyed the discipline that the live environment presented but I’m also eager to get a good quality show reel and to experience the different creative process and challenges that acting for film will bring.

Well i have now finished “Half Moon” my first film , The full length directors cut is 45 minutes long and it sets the tone of the character and the context and situation of the film , there is also a 35 minute edit which gets into the story more quickly but doesn’t really lose any of the films context . It was my first time making a film that i wrote and directed myself and it was also my first time editing and grading a film also so i had to learn a few things to get it to the place that i wanted it to be to release it but i enjoyed the learning process and took away a lot of things from doing it. It’s available to watch on Youtube and Vimeo and i think its a gripping film at times 😉 . The film was well cast with some really talented actors and the crew were extremely professional as well and worked hard and took the time to get the scenes shot well. It’s available to watch HERE on the Films page on this site with links to both the full length directors cut and the revised shorter version. Hope you enjoy!

I have now completed a second film “Wrong Place Wrong Time” which was an Irish comedy of sorts, it’s also available on the films page on this site , please check it out.
